Darrell George's figures are diving, dancing, or reaching for the moon. They are set before abstract compositions. They are frozen in a moment, often with their backs turned away from the viewer. Their non-specific spaces remove them from the realm of familiarity and transform them into icons of love, longing, or accomplishment.

George's influences are Russian non-conformist art and the work of Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, and Frances Bacon.

Darrell George is a Long Branch, NJ native. He lived in and out of New Jersey since 1998, when he graduated from the University of Delaware. George was hardly stereotypical at the University, being an art student and a football player on an athletic scholarship. He maintained his scholarship, knowing that he would continue to paint independently.

When Darrell's athletic career ended, he was an assistant to James Yarosh of James Yarosh Associates Fine Art Gallery in New Jersey. Being attracted to the Russian style of non-conformist artwork in the gallery, Darrell enrolled at the Bridgeview School of Fine Arts in New York. Darrell credits his growth as a painter to his academic study with Russian artist Anna Rochegova. From Anna, Darrell learned many techniques, philosophies, and rigorous training habits of the Surikov Institute in Moscow. The inspiration for his subject matter and palette came from his travels and time in athletics.
