Collection: Land, Sea and Other Stories

Gallery Jupiter is pleased to announce the opening of “Land, Sea and Other Stories,” an exhibition of Cathy Corcione’s most recent paintings. Corcione is a New Jersey painter who studied Art History at Princeton University. This is her third solo exhibition at Gallery Jupiter in Little Silver, NJ.

Cathy Corcione's multilayered paintings juxtapose reality and fantasy, movement and stillness. Working primarily in acrylic and gouache on paper or canvas, they take their cue from the natural world.

One of her main areas of interest is water - oceans, rivers, and pools - where she has spent much of her time. She's interested in how water moves, reflects light, and changes color, in water as a simple shape and in water as a trigger of emotions.

Cathy imparts the same hazy, misty and other worldly quality into a vase of flowers, a field or a single flower. She combines color, shape, light, and texture to express a sense of simplicity and familiarity.

Her love of water was evident at 15 when she was a member of the 1968 Olympic Swimming Team. She continued her career at Princeton University, where she was a five-time NCAA Champion. While there, she also absorbed lessons from many of the masters. Wolf Kahn was inspirational for his color. Her love of shimmering surfaces and iridescence is inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt and Byzantine Art. Cathy grew up in Long Branch, NJ, and resides in Red Bank, NJ.

Her new exhibit “Land, Sea and Other Stories,” will be on display Oct 17 - Nov. 27. Meet Cathy Corcione Oct. 17th, 2024, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.All are welcome.
