Collection: Madeleine Shaw

Madeleine Shaw’s landscapes depict primeval and intense environments. Fantastical and surreal elements abound, with flowers and animals appearing in unexpected places. Forms are suggested but not clearly defined. Asian influences reflect her love of Asian art.

They are edge-to-edge compositions filled with a variety of techniques. Textile elements from Madeline’s quilting work are playfully incorporated, and sgraffito and crackling are used freelyto enhance the textural quality of the work. You may find that the most rewarding viewing of the work is from a distance.

Ms. Shaw attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City and Queens College (C.U.N.Y.), where she majored in Art and Art History. After college, she pursued private art studies while living in Jerusalem and Bologna, Italy. Her works includeacrylic paint, fabric, sumi ink, and appropriated images, allmounted on Bristol board.
